Cosmetic dentistry, does it only mean beautiful appearance of teeth?

When  talking about oral aesthetics, specialists distinguish it in two types:

• white aesthetics – a harmonious and nice appearance of teeth, which can be achieved by hygienization, dental treatment, whitening, orthodontic treatment or implant-prosthetic treatment;
• red aesthetics – the aesthetics of soft tissues achieved thanks to regular dental controls and proffesional hygienisation (removal of deposits, tartar, hygiene instructions), specialist periodontal treatment (periodontal tissue repair and regeneration, muco-gingival art procedures) too.

“There is a lot of talk about aesthetics in dentistry, but not always in the right context. The functional and aesthetic aspect is worth combining with the more important and health dimension of a beautiful smile “- emphasized PhD Agnieszka Laskus.

If the smile is supposed to be really beautiful, it should be above all healthy. For this you need a comprehensive approach to aesthetics: the teeth must be free from discoloration and healthy, moreover the gums, periodontium and mucous membrane without inflammation and in a healthy shade too.
The beauty of a smile goes hand in hand with the health of the mouth. If you have healthy teeth and periodontal tissues, the problem of fillings and filling missing teeth does not exist. If the tissues surrounding the teeth are inadequate, tight and proper restorations or well-placed dentures can not be put on. Leaks or poor adhesion of restorations will cause further destruction of oral tissues: teeth will destroy secondary caries developing under the fillings, and stomatitis will appear on the mucosa and periodontium.
